Director of Development
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Director of Development for the San Antonio Area Command, located in San Antonio, Texas
Administers, leads, and supervises the Development Department; plans, develops, implements and oversees all fund raising activities for the organization based on a formalized fund development program with a marketing strategy that assures adequate funding for shelter operations, services, programs and special projects; plans and administers an annual development budget; plans and supervises coordination of special events and fund-raisers; performs public speaking to promote awareness and financial support for Salvation Army programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of foundation and corporate funding opportunities, planned giving vehicles and trust administration and tax exempt giving. Knowledge of budgeting principles and procedures, basic statistical methods, decision-making techniques. Knowledge and ability to review and prepare reports from donor software. Ability to train and effectively direct the activities of department staff and volunteers. Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate and complete manner. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Advertising, Public Relations, Business Administration, or other related field, and Five to seven years of experience performing development and fund-raising activities, with a minimum of two years supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid State Driver’s License and CFRE (Preferred)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or
occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like, but not limited to the office environment.
