KANSAS CITY, MO – The Salvation Army, which is conducting mass feeding efforts in tornado-stricken Joplin, Missouri, has established a text-to-donate number specifically to support the organization’s relief efforts in that community.
Cell phone users may text the word JOPLIN to 80888 to make a $10 donation. You may also make a credit card donation by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by going to www.salvationarmyusa.org. Checks may be mailed to The Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. Please designate the gift “Joplin Tornado.”
At this time, in-kind donations are not being accepted as financial donations better allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of survivors.
Meanwhile, NBC Action News in Kansas City is sponsoring a telethon tonight from 5-7 PM to raise money for The Salvation Army tornado relief efforts in Joplin and Reading, Kansas. The phone number to call to donate is 816-932-HELP. The lines will be live from 5-7 PM only.
The Salvation Army currently has four mobile feeding kitchens stationed in Joplin, each capable of serving several thousand meals. The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network also arrived in Joplin today to assist survivors in locating loved ones through a ham radio network.
In Reading, Kansas, which was struck by a tornado late Saturday night, The Salvation Army is serving hundreds of meals per day from two mobile feeding kitchens.
