Jackson, MS — The Salvation Army of Jackson is preparing a disaster response plan for all those affected by the tornados of Friday, April 15th, 2011.
“We are working to assess the amount of damage to best identify where we can be of greatest assistance to our community. This was a devastating storm which caused significant damage to hundreds of homes and we want to help those who need it most during this crisis,” said Captain Chapman.
Derrick and Tremeka Minor were hit hard by the storm as their North East Jackson home was destroyed. The family of 4 has been given gift cards to assist with their immediate needs and our Center of Hope shelter has been opened to them for temporary housing.
“We appreciate The Salvation Army so much during this time. This assistance has helped us with the things we need right now,” said Tremeka Minor.
The Salvation Army of Jackson is partnering with the Red Cross and Catholic Charities in an effort to diminish duplication of services. Assessments are being made by agencies today to formulate a disaster response plan for the central Mississippi area.
More than 120-thousand dollars was raised during Tuesday’s telethon with local CBS affiliate WJTV. All monies will go to helping families in the Jackson, Clinton, and Rankin county areas affected by the storms.
