Minneapolis, MN — The Salvation Army Worship and Service Center is providing assistance with clothing, food and basic necessities beginning today at 9 a.m. at 2024 Lyndale AVE N, Minneapolis. Until a family assistance center is set up by the city of Minneapolis, The Salvation Army will offer what help it can from its North Minneapolis service center.
“We recognize one of the biggest challenges is transportation,” said Major Darryl Leedom, Salvation Army Twin Cities Commander. “Our doors are open to help with basic needs while we wrestle with how to help people get to our location. Many on these families already struggled with financial hardship and lack of adequate transportation, this storm has made it nearly impossible.”
The biggest need is for financial donations but nonperishable food, hygiene items and diapers will be accepted at the 2024 Lyndale location. Used clothing and furniture donations are being accepted at the Salvation Army Donation Center at 900 N 4th ST in Minneapolis or at other Salvation Army thrift stores.
Large quantity donations should first call 651-746-3400 as storage at 2024 Lyndale is limited.
“While we cannot guarantee your donations of clothing and furniture will only go to storm survivors, our stores are the best and most helpful way to serve those in this crisis,” Leedom said. “Survivors will receive free vouchers at our Lyndale office to spend at any of our stores.”
Survivors are asked to bring identification showing their residency to establish that they are within the storm-damage area.
Financial donations can be made online at www.thesalarmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or mailing a check to The Salvation Army 2445 Prior AVE, Roseville MN 55113. In addition at $10 donation can be made by texting “blessing” to 85944, the charge will be added to your cell phone bill. Make sure to reply “yes” to confirm your donation.
