Jackson, MS — On Monday May 16, 2011 the State Veterans Home in Jackson presented a contribution to The Salvation Army. Seventy-six year old veteran Robert Thomas says when he first heard about the horrific tornado devastation across portions of Mississippi and Alabama he knew he had to do something. He and other veterans at the home along with staff members decided to start a collection to assist with relief efforts.
“We are so thankful for the gift we have received from these generous and giving individuals” said Major Tom Louden of The Salvation Army’s Incident Command. “The Salvation Army has always been blessed by the support of this country’s veterans. Their donation is just one more example of their compassion for those in need.”
Along with desperately needed pastoral care and emotional support The Salvation Army is also providing items like food, clothing, cleaning supplies and much more to survivors. The Salvation Army is currently operating 21 distribution centers across Alabama and Mississippi as continued Disaster Recovery sites.
